A long time.
Of course, different goals have different completion times, and smaller goals can be achieved relatively quickly.
But bigger goals?
Goals that people dream of?
Goals that are characterized by enormous gains in strength, outrageous gains in muscle mass, incredible developments in speed, and unbelievable changes in body composition?
Yeah, those take a LONG FREAKIN TIME to accomplish (think YEARS, and YEARS, and YEARS).
Now, to some, this information proves rather frustrating.
We live in an “I want it now” society.
If you can’t obtain a “wicked bod” (man…I’ve been hanging out in Boston too long) or super human levels of strength in the next couple of months, what’s the point, right?
To others, this information proves rather exciting.
The journey is going to be long.
The journey is going to be tough.
The journey is going to “beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it” (Rocky Balboa quotes…all day, every day).
But, if it isn’t an epic journey, it’s not an epic goal, right?
Here’s the thing:
Most of the goals we set for ourselves – whether it be to squat 500lbs, lose 50lbs of body fat, move up a couple of weight classes, or compete in a full marathon – are just starting points.
They’re just the beginning.
In most cases, you’re never gonna reach a point where you say, “I’m as strong as I want to be.”
You’re never gonna reach a point where you say, “I’m as lean as I want to be,” or “I’m as big as I want to be.”
And you know what?
That’s a GOOD thing.
There is no stopping point.
There is no finish line.
It’s a never-ending journey of awesomeness and incredibleness.
And if you focus on the journey – instead of the destination – you’ll not only achieve a level of success far beyond that which you originally planned for, but you’ll have a heck of a lot more fun in the process.
